I will be changing cable tv and internet providers mid-June. Verizon FIOS has come to my apartment complex (with goodies and incentives - I even managed to get my friend Al a $10 gift card for "referring" me, which I gave him at lunch today).
Why? Two main reasons: The most important one is that when I had FIOS in my previous apartment, it was clearly superior to the Time-Warner Cable it replaced. Internet speed was more consistent (cable varies with usage by the subscribers sharing the line to the trunk), I liked the TV programming options better, I thought the picture was slightly better, and the cable box/DVR was even a better model. Takeaway: FIOS performed better than TWC.
The second reason is cost: TWC costs more, but delivers inferior service, including slower speeds. I will be paying about $30 less per month for my cable/internet bundle, and there is, in fact, a chance that if I can arrange to get my Verizon cell-phone bundled with that, I'll save even more.
I don't watch a lot of TV (of course, your judgment may be different, I know people who won't have a TV in the house, and have a nagging suspicion they're right), but what I watch is an important part of my lifestyle (for better or worse).
But internet service is very important to me. While I haven't experienced too many outages in this apartment with TWC, the performance has been variable, and never as good as I had when I was hooked up with FIOS previously.

Diet Comment:
Today's big bump is for nothing, really. A little too much pepperoni, maybe? Well, that might account for a quarter pound. No, it's just that mysterious hormonal ebb-and-flow. Little import.
Today was "lunch with Al day" so I didn't bother with breakfast.
