September 8, 2012: Post 603 (2012 Day 252, Blog Day 617)

Daily Comment
I woke up today after sleeping 8-1/2 hours. Then I went back to bed and slept another 3. When I woke up, I had some soreness under my right rib-cage. But it wasn't that big a deal.

Over the next 5 hours, it got worse, and there were some other symptoms. It began to look suspiciously like a heart attack, but I didn't think it was. But I was uncomfortable enough, and, given family history in these things (not good), I went to the ER to make sure.

Not a heart attack. At the time of this writing, the most likely culprit is gallstones.

I'm staying overnight, and tomorrow there will be tests, in the meantime, I'm NPO, which means nothing goes in my mouth, not even water, so I'm connected to an IV drip to stay well-hydrated.

I was relaxed and found myself surprisingly free from anxiety, although when I first got to the hospital my blood pressure was very high. Once I finished an EKG, an ultrasound, a blood test, etc. my blood pressure came down. The pain was uncomfortable, although not severe, and a shot of morphine pretty much took away the pain. By bedtime, my blood pressure was normal.
