Day 40

GOALS
  • Goal date:  2/26/11
  • Weight goal: 217.8 pounds
  • Total Inches goal: 124-1/4
Weight today was all craps: 222.2 pounds on the scale. To me, this result is awesome - representing a 3-1/2 pound loss in 1 week! At this rate, by the end of the year I will be nearly weightless. JK. But a nice thought.

I didn't mention that yesterday at the doctor, the first thing he asked me about was exercise. Exercise is coming, but not for a few months. When the weather is conducive to walking, I intend to walk to and from work, and also to do some kind of body-weight interval training. Why put it off? For one thing, this diet, while it doesn't forbid exercise, is meant for getting you down to exercise weight. Exercise weight? Well, too many exercises done by overweight people overstress joints and muscles in ways that don't happen to those with a 'normal' leanness. Arguably the best exercises a person can do don't use equipment, just the effort of moving your body against resistance (usually gravity and your body weight). Walking is the most natural exercise a human can do. We're built for it - but not when overweight, walking on pavement. Hips, knees and ankles are overstressed, prone to overwork and injury. Other bodyweight exercises, like push-ups, simply put too much stress on the back, shoulders and neck muscles and joints because of the extra weight. This program has no built-in exercise component, but does have exercise recommendations, most of which are very moderate and very brief (90 second exercise bursts, done throughout the day). Once I am down to a reasonable weight for me (in the vicinity of 200 pounds, less than 25 pounds away!), I will look into an exercise program.
Today's food:

Breakfast
Baby spinach, black beans, 1/3C egg whites, one whole, large organic egg, scrambled, cooked in coconut-oil.

 Lunch
Albacore tuna, black beans, balsamic vinaigrette dressing over Spring Mix greens.

Dinner
Unfortunately, no picture. Dinner was a Pacific Wild-caught Salmon patty, steamed green beans and refried beans, all seasoned with some balsamic vinaigrette.

As always, please leave a comment if you visit my blog. Thank you.
