I'm just going to come right out here, knowing my readership - the entire handful of you - is unevenly divided on the matter, and make a personal, partisan political statement:

The Republican Party in the USA (there are Republican organizations in other countries that represent entirely different political points of view) has no policies I consider good for me or anybody I know.

I have come to view the Republican Party in one way only: The party that wants to punish anyone not financially independent (rich), and reward anyone who is.

I have, for years, maintained a position of "a pox on both parties" which I still do. I am deeply disappointed in the Democratic Party for, in the main, not being different than the Republicans. Or, to put it another way, being different in a way that counts (actual supported policies) only in matters I think are minor, or only in edgy details of major issues.

But these past four years of Republican obstructionism have just hit a peak with me: Refusing to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Treaty is nothing but mean. The trumped-up justification - that it might impact a parents' "right" to home-school their disabled children - was bullshit from beginning to end. The fact that the treaty is based on the US law of the land, and only commits us to assist other countries in creating and implementing similar ideas to the Americans with Disabilities Act (sponsored by former Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole) notwithstanding, is just more obstructionism and pandering to people whose ideas I find ridicluous (Tea Baggers and other far-right (and further-right) fanatics).

As I said, this is just more bad policy from a group of people who weren't satisfied when President Reagan started selling off the US to foreign countries and multi-national corporations, or when his Republican successors started limiting Constitutional freedoms that threatened the profits of the Military-Medical-Industrial complex, and won't be satisfied  until the constitution is replaced by a corporate charter that states that nothing is illegal that makes a profit for US, Inc. and anything that doesn't, is.

Fuck them.
