It's always closer to the end, closer to the beginning.I have this sense of the infinite, that it can be contemplated, but not visualized - all the pictures we have of the infinite are limited.
The image we have of the infinite, though, is itself finite. I, for instance, always imagine the infinite as a mobius band (which, logically, has no beginning or end, in- or out-side. , and is, itself an example of optical illusion when drawn - is 2-dimensional when touched, an has no other sensory image attached. However, when you make a mobius band, it exists in a 3-diminsional world, the world of our senses.
Of course, our senses are finite, and can't do justice to the concept of infinity.
Why am I off on this ramble into the ineffable? Because I have been thinking about the future, about life, about my life.
And I keep on going to this place: Every ending is a new beginning. The end of my work-life will be the beginning of my post-work life. The end of playing with this group is the beginning of playing in another, new context. To live abroad, I have to end my current residence.
People say, "You only live once." Personally, I don't think that is accurate - I think life is infinite. Our experience of this particular manifestation may be - more to the point, may seem - a one-off, but energy can't be destroyed - it just takes on a different "form" (there's that finite, sense-centered, illusory imaging, again).
As I've learned from my brother, conservation of energy isn't just a good idea, it's the law.
