Today is a 24-hour fast day. No food for 24 hours, then... Food. Fasting this way is usually not very difficult. Fasting has been, historically, a normal part of the human way of life. It is a very recent development in human history to have food available all day, every day. Today, I probably psyched myself out a bit - anticipating my meal, I got very hungry, and ended the fast just short of 23 hours. No big deal, that.
Daily Comment:
I don't really understand how this came to be. I grew up an out-of-the-apartment-as-much-as-possible kind of child. I always enjoyed the rare opportunities to go to the 'country,' no matter what kind of 'rural' environment it actually was.
At some point, in my mid-to-late 30s, I think, something changed. My preferred activities and recreation didn't lend themselves to outdoors enjoyment. I stopped finding reasons to go to the beach in the Summer. I stopped engaging in outdoor sports (really, all sports). I stopped bicycling. I stopped jogging/running. I no longer had anything walking-distance away to move me out-of-doors.
When I retire, I intend to spend a lot more time in the sun. But for now, it is just pleasant, and something more to observe than to immerse myself in.
