January 18, 2012: Post 18, Day 18 - Fast Day

Net Loss/Gain:         - 3.0 lbs
Daily weight from December 31, 2011 - first quarter.
Daily weight from December 31, 2011 - year 2012.
My morning weight reveals the reason why I note, but do not fixate on, the daily weight fluctuations. Nice to see the trend-line flatten out and even pointing slightly lower. 

Today was a scheduled 24-hour fast day, meaning that I didn't eat until dinner. But, for the first time doing these twice-weekly fasts, I was hungry by lunchtime, 18 hours after my fast began. I was able to overcome this hunger by drinking a little more water, but come dinnertime, a rehearsal meant that I wasn't able to (and really didn't want to) do the full 24 hours - I got to 23 hours, then started eating dinner (with a quick-to-eat appetizer). After rehearsal, I had a lot of protein for a snack.

Daily Comment
I subscribe to a number of magazines dealing with moving and living overseas. Last night, reading one, I eliminated the Philippines from contention. An article that was, I presume, supposed to make living there attractive had the opposite effect on me. And made Chiang Mai, Thailand or Penang, Malaysia look even more attractive. Those are, today, my top 2 expat locations. Medellin and Cuenca are tied for 3rd place, Mexico and Uruguay tied for 5th.

Another, mostly unrelated thing: It was cold today. Temperature-wise, at lunch it was 20 degrees out, with light snow. But it was also windy, and subjectively, that made it too cold. I'm not complaining about the weather, (although it seemed uncomfortably cold, as cold as I remember). This time last year (it wasn't actually quite this cold) I had 40+ more pounds of insulation on me, and I was not, shiveringly happy about it being thin. Wherever I end up in retirement, cold weather will not be a feature.
