My weight dropped even though I had a late-night snack yesterday.
The jury is still out as to whether my additional protein in the morning is helping me. I may have violated the self-experimenter's "rule" by making more than one change at a time.
The jury is still out as to whether my additional protein in the morning is helping me. I may have violated the self-experimenter's "rule" by making more than one change at a time.
It has occurred to me to revert to the simple model I used at the beginning, where all I did was follow the 5 basic rules. Nothing more, nothing less.
Following the SCD plan was simple: Eggs were the protein for breakfast, cold cuts or tuna were the protein at lunch, beef, chicken or fish were the protein at dinner. Spinach was (and is, and continues to be) the vegetable for breakfast, 6-8 cups of mixed green salad was (and usually is) the vegetable at lunch, and my dinner vegetables are a bag of frozen vegetables. Canned beans, usually in 1/2C portions, were the beans at all three meals. I would sometimes skip a meal or two after my Free day. I wasn't eating within a 1/2 hour of wakeup. I was eating off plan for the entire Free day. I lost 35 pounds in less than 90 days. Life was good.
And then, for the next 6 weeks, the first week that showed a weight gain was followed by dramatically slowed weight loss, and the weight swings up and down became exaggerated.
And I began tinkering.
And I began tinkering.
I re-read the book, found some things I'd missed, not paid attention to, or misunderstood the first time. I found new resources on the internet, other people on SCD. New interpretations. I introduced the packaged Indian bean dishes. I began trying to eat my first meal sooner after waking (successfully, for the most part). I dramatically increased my water intake. Most recently, I added a protein mix in the morning, and occasionally before bed.
In the last 6 weeks, I've lost 3 pounds. Insignificant progress on the weight front.
Much more disturbing: No progress at all in my measurements. As in, the exact same inches on chest, waist, and hips (+/- 1/4") over the last 6 weeks.
I'm not complaining, I'm reporting, evaluating. And thinking... Maybe it is time to "Get Back" to before I was using prepared Indian food or guacamole, had only rare trips to Mexican restaurants (I think only 2 in the first 90 days), wasn't making or using mayonnaise, and wasn't drinking 1-1/2 gallons of water a day, etc.
