Daily Comment:
When I left my previous job, I took the money accumulated in my 401K and opened a self-directed IRA. I have always been interested in investing, and have a lot of experience. Although, I have spent longer periods of time successfully investing, the short periods of time when I was unsuccessful have cost me more than I've made.
But this opened a new chapter for me, and I chose my stocks with a new, conservative plan, and in the 18 months since I started this round of investing I am up almost 20%.
Just writing that down got me to thinking some more.
Just writing that down got me to thinking some more.
When I came to Syracuse 34 months ago, I was homeless (and had been for 3 months), with only my car, a POD-full of household goods, and musical instruments and accessories. Nothing in the bank. In debt for more than $40,000.
Today, the debt has been reduced to less than $3,000 and will be 0 by December. My IRA and current TSP (government 401K equivalent), amount to more than $25,000. While I have less home furnishings now, many of the ones I have are higher quality than those that I came with. While the car is on its way out, I have more and better musical equipment.
Not that there's any real relationship, but I have also been successful at weight reduction and, more recently, weight control for 16 of those 18 months.
Woo-hoo! Can I celebrate me without seeming too egotistical? Damn right.
But not without expressing my gratitude to those people who helped (intentionally or not) when I was down. I hope they know who they are, and I wish to share my happiness at my good fortune (explicitly or implicitly) now that I'm back on my feet and feeling really good. This is the best time of my life.
