November 1, 2012 - Fast Day
Daily Comment
Yesterday I had to deal with my flight to LA being cancelled.
JetBlue, my hands-down favorite airline of all time, texted, emailed and robo-called me to make sure I knew of this change. They also provided for re-booking with no charge for changes or, as it turned out in my case, a higher airfare than the cancelled flights.
It took about 90 minutes to contact Alex and find out how this would affect his plans and what were the best alternatives, get new reservations (exactly the same flights, but 6 days later for both departure and return), change my hotel reservations, cancel and re-book my rental car.
At the end of the day, everything worked out beautifully, the dates are actually better - these are dates I would have preferred, but they get into the Thanksgiving fare season and would have cost me 150% more for the flights - and Alex and I will have more time together.
This is why I don't mind planning but don't get invested in the plan. To quote Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. again, "Nothing succeeds as planned." And, as I like to think about, that doesn't mean that nothing succeeds - I consider this a successful outcome - but it didn't go as planned.
That's what I'm talking about.
