January 1, 2012: Post 2-1, Day 1 - Fast Day

Please leave a comment if you visit my blog. Thank you!
Today's Weight:        203.2 lbs
Yesterday's Weight:    200.0 lbs
Net Loss/Gain:        +  3.2 lbs
Daily weight from January 1, 2011. Note: January 1-5 and November 4-13 weights are estimated.
Welcome to 2012. We begin the day with only last year's annual chart. Too early for any current charts. We'll begin that next Saturday, on the new year's first measurement day. After yesterday's indulgence, today I fast. No food until tomorrow.

At this point, I am fasting for health, not to lose weight. I do expect the fasting to help keep my weight in check.

This is the 'diet' going into this year: 4 days of eating meals based on protein, vegetables and beans (with the occasional hurry-up meal of a whey protein shake)2 days of fasting (for now; that might change to one day later), and one cheat day. I love that I can describe my diet in 1 sentence and 40 words, including parenthetical comments.

I hope everyone is anticipating the new year with the same optimism and enthusiasm I am.

What an incredible effort. I am in awe. You are such an inspiration. I'm sorry I didn't call you back. Will try to get a call in today. Congrats to Dan, too. My five pounds seems measly but it is my five pounds. I love you, Joan

Thanks, Joan. I've still got a ways to go, but reading Ken's blog has been an surprising source of support. I especially like his attitude about those annoying weight GAINS and the effort to view them as part of a longer-term perspective. And he's reminded me that nuts, good as they are, can be overdone. Good luck to you!

@Dan: You've done so well! I am proud - and flattered - that you found the blog in any way helpful.

@Joan: Remember, weight loss isn't (shouldn't be) a competitive endeavor. I just realized that that is (the main reason) why I don't watch 'The Biggest Loser'. It is great that you've lost a bit of weight - you will achieve your goal in small increments. You will wake up one day and you will have lost much more, and you won't remember all the little tiny losses that added up to it. You can build a pretty big house one brick at a time...
