This day's eating ended with a 'fail' of sorts. I got it into my head that I wanted a bowl of cereal after dinner. I couldn't get it out, and, since there was some cereal around, I had something I usually reserve for cheat day for dessert at dinner.
I will be fasting tomorrow, then going out to eat a high-protein, low-carb dinner.

It seems to me that the main argument for Western hemisphere (Mexico, Central and South America) is that the places under consideration offer decent retirement packages and are relatively close to 'home'. The main argument for my favored Southeast Asia retirement locations is quality of life and cost. Most SE Asian countries don't offer the same kind of retirement incentives as my chosen spots in the West but there are exceptions in the West (Colombia doesn't have a Retirement package, Malaysia does). I'm thinking quality of life wins. But maybe I don't have to be so choosy. Maybe instead of checking out my list for a year, I just travel... Without a time limit to settle down...

I vote for closer. Not that I get a vote. It was an amazing book. So many things were so right on target. We are all mourning Soul Train here, speaking of memories.
Love you
I had a heavy dose of nostalgia there, thinking about how influential 'Soul Train' was on my thinking when I was really, really into it (just before to just after it went National and moved to LA).
See, I like the idea of 'closer' but I keep reading about the incredibly inconvenient bureaucracies that the expat has to deal with to do simple things... And the attraction of so many things about the less-conveniently-located SouthEast Asian destinations. That is why I have to be open to taking longer than a year before I decide where to finally hang it up. And, at least at first, Permanent Traveller status sounds as good as Expat status to me. Since you don't travel much, Syracuse, NY is inconveniently far now. I submit that any location outside the US is equally remote to you. I also can tell you that I will probably be able to visit more often after I relocate elsewhere (especially if the cost-of-living advantage remains in my location, or if I am just travelling all the time) than if I don't.
Love,
Ken
