Diet Comment:
The expected loss... happened.
As per yesterday's Daily Comment, I'm down to one chart. And, as I de-emphasize the diet writing in the blog, maybe it's a good time to review how I'm currently eating:
- Sunday - 24-hour fast - no food until 24 hours after my last meal on Saturday - sometimes this means going all day without eating (which extends the fast to 30+ hours).
- Monday - regular eating day: Protein and vegetables, with some good fat.
- Tuesday - regular eating day: Protein and vegetables, with some good fat.
- Wednesday - regular eating day: Protein and vegetables, with some good fat.
- Thursday - 24-hour fast - no food until 24 hours after my last meal on Wednesday - usually no food until dinner.
- Friday - regular eating day: Protein and vegetables, with some good fat.
- Saturday - cheat day: No rules, eat whatever I want, as much as I want.
Of course, this is the plan, it is typical; there are (always) variations. And that is okay.
Daily Comment:
What can I say about the political situation in this country? Maybe the best course would be to say nothing, and vote with my wallet... and my feet.Daily Comment:
I will say this: It seems to me that we are being governed by people who have no interest in the common good. It seems to me that, from a social point of view, things are much, much worse now than they were 40 or so years ago.
It seems to me, and the Republicans believe that they, and only they, are fit to govern. i believe that party is 180 degrees wrong - that they are, collectively, the worst-suited to govern, the modern equivalent of the degenerate line of Roman Caesars. Their agenda continuously defies the will of the people, like the 75% of the population who support the Buffet Rule on taxes. Further, and more repugnant to me, they have an anti-science, Christian/biblical fundamentalist view on government-imposed morality, and gender inequality.
The other party is hard to defend as being any better, in my opinion. Full of lip service, empty of the will to make changes that will directly help the 99.9% of the people who put their faith and their lives on the line in the belief that 'the system' will not betray them. Their only claim to legitimacy seems to me to be that... they're not Republicans. So, they will always get my vote.
I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see a way out. Things have degenerated so quickly, not in my lifetime, but in half my lifetime.
Yes, I will take my memories of a time when I believed in the American democracy, and remember them somewhere else. I am not unaware of the irony that only this country's laws and policies are enabling my prospective retirement expatriation, but am further vexed to acknowledge that nothing that has happened in the last 50 years has helped me with this, the policies that are enabling me are older; and, in the current political climate, my well-being, current and future, is threatened by the austerity-hawks on the right.
It makes me wish I could leave sooner.
