Not bad, considering the content and volume. I'd say my carb overload worked well. Maybe too well. I had very little appetite today, and ended up eating my first meal (we'll call that breakfast) in the late afternoon, and nothing after.

Daily Comment
I am getting antsy about my 8-day trip to LA, which starts with my flight out on Friday. There seems so much to do to prepare for it. When I was younger, it would have taken me 1/2 an hour to be ready. Now, it takes longer than that just to get out of the house to go to work in the morning. I can't figure out what's changed...

Just kidding. Passage of time. Age. Yeah.

Two not-so-good days, and I am a pound up week-over-week. Today's meals began in the early afternoon and ended at midnight.

Daily Commentary
Beginning the Winter here, I am looking forward to the biggest challenge of the year: On Friday, I am going to LA, and will be unable to follow the diet I have been on. I am looking at my alternatives... Which probably include as much time walking as I can fit in.

Food Log
Breakfast
Multi-grain bagels with flax seed and grilled swiss cheese with Ezekiel Golden Flax sprouted grain cereal with stevia, blueberries, almond milk and cinnamon, and an 'Apple Goodie' (basically, a Dutch apple pie without the pie crust [ingredients: apples, flour, sugar, oats, cinnamon] that I got from an Amish farm stand).
Lunch
Whole wheat farfalle with peas and Wegman's Grandma Sauce (peppers, onions, basil and wine tomato sauce) and a salad with Spring Mix greens, red cabbage and a tomato.
Dinner
A bowl of Ezekiel Golden Flax Sprouted Grains cereal with almond milk and stevia. For dessert, a miniature pumpkin pie from the same Amish farm stand.

This is my 300th consecutive, haven't-missed-one-in-2011 post. 64 to go this year (January 1 was day zero). Unfortunately, I celebrated with an unplanned cheat. See the comment below.

Daily Comment
I have mentioned here that one of the biggest hurdles I have to overcome is my chronic sleep deprivation. I never seem to get enough good sleep. Even when there's no wake-up alarm (weekends), I wake up and I am listless, not well-rested, and lie around in bed. For hours, sometimes.

Luckily, it does not typically show in any socially unpleasant ways (grouchiness, hyper-sensitivity), but it does have an effect on weight loss and maintenance, because you need good sleep to keep weight off. However, another way it sabotages you, is that, when you're tired, you are prone to mistakes and I made one today. I was bonking an hour after lunch, and while I was making coffee, I was offered a jelly donut. I didn't think twice, and accepted it, and, back at my desk at work, scarfed it down, not only without thinking, but without even any awareness. Or enjoyment.

Yes, I blame lack of sleep.

All was going well for me today until I made a new batch of spicy mayonnaise, then stayed out late. I came home hungry - which shouldn't have happened. My midnight snack will not sit well with me tomorrow.

Daily Comment
I went to see my doctor for a regular checkup, and got the word to reduce the dosage of my high blood pressure medication. Excellent. This is a great step towards the goal I have been working towards. My cholesterol profile was also excellent. I take a statin drug, which I hate, just in principal (and because I'm not sure cholesterol is a health issue best addressed by drugs, or even if it needs fixing).

It is my hope, and the real goal of my dieting, to be able to stop taking both medications.

Yesterday's normal "upside down" day continued the recovery from cheat day, now below the weight I started cheat day at. An unscheduled meal out at a nearby Chinese buffet made for a very big lunch. Since I was very hungry later, I suspect there were some ingredients that were off-diet, probably in some of the sauces.

Yesterday was a fairly high-calorie normal day. This is a pretty normal "upside down" day for me: A normal breakfast, a normal lunch, protein-shake dinner.

Why have I not been active in the #Occupy Wall Street movement? I have thought about it, and I agree with it and hope it accomplishes its goals. The problem? I am cynically hopeless about the People's ability to overturn the powerful, entrenched, moneyed 1% now running the political show in this country, occupying Washington, DC, as it were.

The scale barely nudged after yesterday's high carb sugar extravaganza. Good for me. But it is a weird day, and I had very little appetite. I ended up eating a big meal in the afternoon, and a snack after midnight. That probably means bad news tomorrow.
